They are always larger than the object.

a diverging lens forms a virtual image which is smaller in size as compared to the object. the image formed by the diverging lens is also erect in nature. the image formed by diverging lens on the same side as the object. so when the object is placed beyond the focal point, an erect, smaller and virtual image is formed before the focal point on the same side as the object
