I am assuming that you want to solve for y
basically, you try to isolate the y on one side exg y=something
so

Py+qy=-4y+8
add4y to both sides
Py+qy+4y=8
undistribute y
(y)(P+q+4)=8
divide both sides by (P+q+4)
y=8/(P+q+4)

⇒ y(p+q)= -4y+ 8 (distributive property)
⇒ (p+ q)*y + 4y= 8
⇒ y(p+ q+ 4)= 8
