Displacement is the final distance subtracted by the initial distance covered. Distance is the total covered distance, even if they return back to where they began.

For example, it is possible to roller skate around a circular running track that is 2 km long, having a distance of 2 km but a displacement of 0 km.

Hope I helped :)
