Greetings!

"Six times a number increased by 20 is four less than eight times the number. Find the number."...

This would be, as an equation:
[tex]6x+20=8x-4[/tex]

Solve:
Add 4 and -6x to both sides.
[tex](6x+20)+4+(-6x)=(8x-4)+4+(-6x)[/tex]
Simplify.
[tex]24=2x[/tex]
Divide both sides by 2.
[tex](24)/2=(2x)/2[/tex]
Simplify.
[tex]12=x[/tex]
[tex]x=12[/tex]

x=12

Hope this helps.
