How much energy is released when 42.5 g of water freezes?

To calculate for the energy that is released from the freezing process, we need to know the latent heat of fusion of water. From literature, this value would be 334 J/g. We multiply the mass of the sample to the latent heat. 

Energy released = 334 J/g (42.5 g)
                               = 14195 J
