Sapa Inca means "only Inca or emperor". The Sapa Inca was the principal figure involved in both politics and religion, and whom the Inca society worshipped as a deity.  

When a Sapa Inca died, his son ascended to the throne.  

Atahualpa is known to be the last Inca Emperor.
