x - y = 2    ---------------(I)

x + 2y= 5 ----------------(II)

x - y = 2

   x = 2 + y       _________(III)

Substitute x = 2 + y in equation (II)

2 + y + 2y = 5           {combine like terms}

     2 + 3y  = 5

           3y  = 5 -2

            3y = 3

              y = 3/3

y = 1

Substitute y = 1 in equation (III)

x = 2 + 1

x = 3
