When carrying out a scientific experiment it is important that the experimental group and the control group are exposed to the same conditions. This ensures a fair and valid experimental investigation into the proposed subject matter and the experimenter can then be relatively confident in their results. If in doubt, the experiment could be replicated to see if the same results are obtained.
