| 4x - 3| - 5 = 4
| 4x - 3| = 9

4x - 3 = 9      -(4x - 3) = 9
4x = 12          -4x + 3 = 9
x = 3              -4x = 6
                        x = -6/4 or -1.5
solution to equation 1 : x = 3 and x = -1.5

|2x + 3| + 8 = 3
| 2x + 3| = - 5....no solution because an absolute value cannot equal a negative number
