A: The BRICS economies of major emerging markets comprising Brazil, Russia, India and China formally invited South Africa to join its group in December 2010. Chinese President Hu Jintao wrote a letter to South African President Jacob Zuma inviting him to the third BRICS heads of state meeting in Beijing in April 2011.
