The level of carbon dioxide in the blood affects the breathing rate. It also affects the heart rate. How would you expect high levels of carbon dioxide to affect the heart rate?

If there is a high level of carbon dioxide in the blood, the breathing rate would be higher, which makes the heart rate higher as well.
