Many workers are also discouraged from taking time off from their jobs for any reason, even if the days off are unpaid. What effect might attitudes such as these among employers have on an influenza outbreak in a community?
It would cause the influenza virus to mutate into a less virulent strain as it was passed to others. It would make influenza a major cause of hospitalization and death in the community. It would make the influenza outbreak end sooner since people would get well more quickly. It would cause influenza to spread rapidly if sick people came in contact with others at work.
